The festival in Toronto, Canada "Ashkenaz" presented a brand new concert production of "Bas Sheve" opera, directed by Neal Stulberg and featuring the UCLA Philharmonia, with soloists Jaclyn Grossman, Jonah Spungin, Marcel d’Entremont and Geoffrey Schellenberg. Produced through a tri-national partnership between Ashkenaz, Yiddish Summer Weimar and the UCLA Lowell Milken Center for Music of American Jewish Experience, with the support of the Canada Council for the Arts, Azrieli Foundation, Toronto Workmen’s Circle Foundation, Rebanks Family Fellowship Program of Glenn Gould School at The Royal Conservatory, and the UJA Committee for Yiddish.
Here’s a sneak preview of the stunning new animation that has been created for the North American premiere performances of the Yiddish opera “Bas Sheve,” by Hamburg-based artists Yeva Lapsker and Shendl Copitman. These unique multi-media projections was integrated with the English supertitles accompanying the three shows. The shows were performed on Aug 31 to Sept 2 at Glenn Gould Studio CBC as part of the 2022 Ashkenaz Festival.
